Georgia Villalobos is the mother of five children and grandmother to seven grandchildren. Her last child, Tori, just happened to be born with an extra 21st chromosome causing Down syndrome, a condition that affects her physical and emotional development. Raising Tori has changed Georgia's life in many positive ways. Georgia, with the support of her friends and community, established Barstow's Down Syndrome Support Group, Barstow, California's first Down syndrome support group in December 2005. It has since expanded it to include the parents and children of any special needs children (e.g. Autism, Williams syndrome,Cancer, heart conditions, Cerebral Palsy, etc.) After seeing how retelling her experiences were helping other parents of children with special needs, Georgia began a series (Tori's Adventures) that chronicles Tori's adventures through doctor's appointments, friendships, and school as a child with Down syndrome. This series intends to familiarize parents of children with Down syndrome with some common Down syndrome medical procedures and offers inspiration; Tori, with her happy cheerful nature has overcome difficult times and has already shown her family what it means to be alive.
